Sustainable suitcases with Harper Collective

Our Managing Director Stuart Fry is delighted and privileged to be presenting at the European Thermoforming Conference in Amsterdam on 10-12th April.

Stuart’s presentation will explore Linecross’s innovative collaboration with luxury sustainable luggage brand Harper Collective and the journey ‘from trash to sustainable suitcases.’

Having previously worked with Antler luggage on their SRPP ‘Atom’ collection, Linecross supported Harper Collective (co-founded by former Merchandising Director at Selfridges, Sebastian Manes and actor, musician and activist Jaden Smith) to bring their luxury sustainable luggage vision to life. From journaling the product design challenges, material selection, testing and finally the tooling and production supply.

We actively partnered Harper Collective advising on all the key design requirements for vacuum forming and CNC trimming; from minimum draft angles to minimum radii, draw depth and possible textures, through to CNC trimming tolerances and fixation strategy for mating components. Material selection and evaluation was a key factor in the final success of the product especially when considering recycled sea plastics and post-consumer waste (PCW) plastics, whose origin and levels of contamination is often unknown. Having locked in the design and material choice we finally embarked on the production tooling and serial manufacture to see the product brought to reality.

We’re very proud of the final product made from fishing nets from the UK coast and recycled aluminium. Watch Jaden Smith making the ‘case’ for sustainable luggage.
